California Odyssey 02 BOYS and 01 GIRLS advance to State Cup Semi Finals in Highest Division of Competition

California Odyssey will have 2 of 4 teams advance to The NorCal State Cup, State Division, Semi-Finals after the round of 16 this past weekend. COSC01GR1 (Justin Caldera) and COSC02BR1(Vitalis Otieno) both advanced in convincing fashion to the state cup semifinals to be played in Davis, CA.

The 02 boys were first to advance fighting off a tough Placer United squad. Gabriel Torres’ brace proved to be the difference in the match with two goals in each half.  Placer who are currently in a three way tie for first place in NPL – Champions League, are a formidable side but Torres’ 5th minute counter-attack goal gave Odyssey control of the match from the onset.  Placer United battled throughout the match but could not take advantage of nine corner kicks, conceded by Odyssey.  Torres tallied again midway through the second half with a “chip” over the advancing goalkeeper to secure the victory for Odyssey.  Placer were awarded with a late penalty following a foul at the edge of the box. But Odyssey keeper, Cooper Wentzel's made a fully extended save, to preserve the shutout. The 02 boys will now face Napa Soccer Academy for the rights to advance to the championship game on 5/12 in @1:10pm in Davis, Ca.  GOOD LUCK BOYS!!!!

On the girls side, the 01 girls from California Odyssey trounced Union City Premier Warriors 4-1 in an entertaining match.  Jordyn Puente’s 11th minute goal from long range was spilled by the Union City keeper and Emma Price made no mistake pouncing on the rebound, giving Odyssey the early lead.  Roop Singh's tenacity paid off as her close range strike gave Odyssey a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.  In the second half, Union City finally unlocked Odyssey’s defense nodding in the Warriors only goal of the match.  Odyssey however, was not done scoring as Mercy Merlo’s left footed strike extended the lead to 3, followed by Melanie Medina for Odysseys’ final goal. A great afternoon for the girls where Odyssey were clinical all over the pitch.  Odyssey will now face Marin FC in the semifinals on 5/12 @ 10:50 am in Davis, Ca at the Legacy fields.

Please check Nor Cal's website for any time or location updates or changes. GOOD LUCK GIRLS!!!
(COSC01BR1(Waseem) and COSC04BR (Otieno) were not as fortunate as they both fell 2 -1 and 6-1 respectively in the elite 8)
Congratulations to all our teams and coaches for their performances at State Cup!
