It is known around the World that to improve a players development, small sided games must be incorporated into any training program. The Director of Soccer Operations of COSC, David Armstrong has designed a unique tournament format where players can truly learn while playing without "the win at all cost" emphasis. 

As a member of the US Development Academy it is imperative that clubs like California Odyssey be in the forefront of offering programs such as these with the hope of educating coaches and parents alike as to the future direction of developing competitive and non competitive soccer players.

Armstrong firmly believes that these events follow the "best practices" guideline issued by the USSF.  The 70-page book “Best Practices for Coaching Soccer in the United States” serves as the sport’s new player development guide and is available as a free download at ussoccer.com. click here for details

The goal of this small sided tournament format is to create a festival type atmosphere which will include extra activities such as a goal keeper shoot-out challenge, old style MLS striker shoot-out, PK competition, soccer tennis and sand soccer tennis plus more........

Summer Soccer Festivals Unique Format 

4v4 format for U5 -13 - guaranteed Five 30 minute games!

Game Format 3- Periods 10 min + 2 - 5 min breaks

Period 1 - Coaching on field (1 coach allowed on the field of play)

Period 2 - Coaching from sidelines

Period 3 - No coaching - Mandatory

6v6 format for U14 - U16 - guaranteed Five 36 minute games!

Game Format 3- Periods 12 min + 2 - 5 min breaks

Period 1 - One 30 second time out

Period 2 - One 30 second time out

Period 3 - No time out

*All teams will have the opportunity to participate in the extra festival activities, which will include Soccer Tennis Competition, Sand Soccer Tennis, Goalkeeper Challenge, PK Competition, MLS 35yrd Striker Shootout challenge, Power Shot challenge*

Each age group will be limited to a maximum of 12 teams only. Each age group will consist of 2 - 6 team divisions. Prizes will be awarded to all Division winners and 2nd place, prizes will also be awarded for each challenge competition.

Rules:

No throw ins, all corners must be short corners, all free-kicks are indirect, no balls over head height.  No slide tackles, free play subs, time-outs.
