I have over 15 years of coaching experience, from U6-U12 recreational thru U13-U15 competitive. I have coached numerous
All-Star teams, served as director of the Cole summer camp, helped out with U17 and U19 clubs and currently hold an “E”
coaching license. During a brief coaching hiatus, I was a referee for 3 years, officiating primarily U10-U16 games. I have played
for many years here in the valley from the Premiere Division in the San Joaquin and Cesar Chavez leagues to various Coed
teams and can still be found dragging my increasingly battered body up and down fields throughout the area. While this
background is certainly helpful in coaching, I think the real value is found in the passion it reflects. I love soccer. It is a fantastic
sport and I thoroughly enjoy teaching kids the beautiful game.
My soccer philosophy is really quite simple. I believe that youth players should primarily focus on developing their skills with the
ball. Soccer is so much more fun when you can do things other than simply kick and chase the ball. I firmly believe that the single
biggest deficit in American soccer is the lack of mastery, flair, creativity and aggressiveness with the ball. If we don’t encourage
them to develop and use these skills now, then they will lack the confidence to try them later as the game gets faster, more
physical and the pressure to win from coaches, parents, peers, and even themselves increases. While development of players
does often lead to winning more games, what I really hope to do is foster a passion for the game in our kids. If we accomplish
that, not only will our club turn out magnificent players, we will also help create the next generation of fans and coaches.
