Coach Schulz has been involved in soccer for over 35 years.  He is a Fresno native, growing up in Clovis Unified.  He began playing soccer at an early age in the Clovis Junior Soccer League.  From there he played as a midfielder in junior high at Clovis West (Kastner was not built yet).  He continued playing high school ball at Clovis West High School, but became the defensive sweeper for the team.  He was fortunate enough to captain his high school team to a valley championship in soccer.  During this time he also played for Clovis club soccer, prior to the formation of Odyssey.  He attended the University of California at Davis where he played soccer until a knee injury.  At this point he focused on his studies but stayed involved in soccer earning money refereeing games and organizing intramural soccer at U.C. Davis.  Coach Schulz then came home during his masters studies and played in the premier club leagues in Fresno.  Next moving to Los Angeles, where he was studying for his doctorate, but still found time to play on club teams or pick-up games.  During his graduate studies he won the intramural soccer league at University of Southern California.  In 2003, he moved back to Fresno, and began coaching for Clovis Junior Soccer League.  He was soccer commissioner for Fugman Elementary during two of those years.  Currently, he is coaching junior high boys soccer at Granite Ridge. Coach Schulz currently has an E/D level coaching license.
